What Affects The Cost Of A Plant Or Forklift Move
Every move is quoted individually, because no two machines or sites are the same. These are the five things a controller will ask about before giving you a price.
Machine Weight
The single biggest factor. It decides the bed and sometimes the permits.
Distance
Where the machine is now and where it needs to end up.
Site Access
Gate widths, ground conditions and overhead cables all matter.
Condition
Whether it drives on under its own power or has to be winched.
Timing
Out-of-hours, weekend and shutdown moves are priced differently.
No surprises. You get a clear figure before a unit is dispatched, and that is the figure you pay. If the job changes on arrival — a machine heavier than described, or ground too soft to stand the bed on — we tell you before we do anything, not afterwards.

What We Need To Know Before We Arrive
Plant moves go wrong when the truck arrives and cannot reach the machine. Five minutes on the phone saves a wasted visit.

- Whether it starts, steers, rolls and brakes under its own power
- Overall height and width, including masts, booms and cabs
- Gate and access widths, plus any height restrictions on the route in
- Ground conditions where the bed will have to stand
- Who will be on site to sign the machine on or off
Yard still busy when we arrive?
Tell us in advance. Our operators will not load a machine in an area that is not clear of people and obstructions, so if the yard is working we will agree a time when the area can be cordoned off. Booking that in is far quicker than turning up and waiting.

What size machines can you move?
It comes down to weight and dimensions rather than machine type. Counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, telehandlers, mini diggers, dumpers and access platforms are all moved regularly. Give the controller the make, model and unladen weight and we will confirm what we can send.
The forklift will not start. Can you still move it?
Yes. Machines that will not start, will not steer or have seized wheels are winched onto the bed rather than driven on. Mention it when you call so the winch and any skates come out with us.
Do you need someone on site?
Usually, yes. Somebody needs to open up, show the operator the machine and sign it on or off. If that is not possible, tell us in advance and we will agree how the collection is handled.
Can you move a machine with a mast or boom fitted?
Yes, provided the overall height and width are known before we arrive. Masts often need lowering and booms retracting for transport, so give us the model and we will confirm what is needed.
How much notice do you need?
Emergency call-outs are answered 24 hours a day. Planned moves are better booked in advance so we can match the bed to the machine and the time to your site hours.
Can you work outside site hours?
Yes. Early starts, evenings and weekend moves are common so that yards and loading bays are not blocked during working hours. Out-of-hours work is priced differently and you are told the figure up front.
What if the ground is too soft for the lorry?
Tell us the ground conditions when you book. If the bed cannot safely stand where the machine is, we will discuss matting, a different pick-up point, or moving the machine to firmer ground first.
Do you move machines long distance?
Yes. Plant is moved between cities, depots and sites nationwide. Ask for a quote with both postcodes and the machine weight and we will price the run.
Do you offer accounts for hire companies?
Yes. Plant hire firms, contractors and facilities teams with regular booked work can arrange account terms. Ask the controller when you call.
Is the machine covered while you are moving it?
Our recovery and transport work is insured. The cover that applies depends on the machine and its value, so tell the controller what it is worth when you book and we will confirm the position before the move goes ahead.
